Observation Session – 18 October 2014

Location: Cévennes National Park, France

Session duration: 2 nights

Sky conditions: Very dark sky (Bortle 2–3), light wind

Instruments:

  • 200mm Newtonian reflector
  • 100mm apochromatic refractor
  • 7×50 binoculars

Targets:

  • Venus
  • Jupiter
  • Rigel
  • M45 (Pleiades)

Observation notes:

The session alternated between lunar, planetary and deep-sky observation, with repeated checks against older notebook entries.

Observers noted subtle differences in contrast and brightness that led to extended discussion between sessions.

  • 150mm Newtonian telescope

  • Saturn
  • Perseus star field
  • M45 (Pleiades)
  • The Moon

In the desert air, several members noticed a distinct perfume of flowers seeming to fall from above, despite the absence of vegetation in the surrounding area.
